Dean’s Recommendation

Dean’s Recommendation

The dean’s recommendation letter is optional for non-tenured appointments as outlined below:

Non-tenured Appointments:  Dean can either write a letter or simply signify consent by initialing the appropriate box on a copy of the Cover Sheet and forwarding it to the Chancellor through the Academic Personnel Office.  At any point the Committee on Academic Personnel, the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost, or the Chancellor can request a statement or letter from the dean.

Tenured Appointments:  Dean’s letter should be forwarded expeditiously to the Chancellor through the Academic Personnel Office.  The Committee on Academic Personnel, the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost, or the Chancellor may request review by an ad hoc committee.  In the event an ad hoc review is employed, the ad hoc report shall be provided to the appropriate dean, in redacted form, so that he/she may revise his/her dean's letter if appropriate.
